Jean-Marc Fleury FXR-4 Chronograph Openwork Edition

The present watch is the Jean‑Marc Fleury Chronographe FXR‑4 Openwork, a striking evolution of the Manufacture’s inaugural chronograph, conceived as a transparent expression of mechanical truth. Rooted in the founder’s decades of experience—most notably over ten years at Patek Philippe—the FXR‑4 collection has always been guided by a philosophy of uncompromising integrity, where construction, finishing, and functionality exist in perfect coherence. With the Openwork edition, that philosophy is no longer concealed—it is fully revealed.

Rather than replacing the original FXR‑4, this new interpretation expands its identity. Where earlier models embraced restraint and classical discretion, the Openwork embraces transparency as a demonstration of mastery. A sapphire dial opens an unobstructed view into the movement, allowing the wearer to experience the architecture, energy, and rhythm of the calibre in real time. Light flows through carefully sculpted bridges and components, transforming the watch into a dynamic composition of depth and motion.

At its heart lies the in-house FM04 calibre, a manual-winding integrated chronograph measuring 32.5 x 6.5 mm and composed of 279 components. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, the movement features a traditional column-wheel with horizontal clutch, offering both mechanical purity and tactile precision. The openworked construction elevates the dialogue between form and function, exposing every lever, wheel, and interaction—each one finished entirely by hand. Anglage, satin brushing, mirror polishing, and Côtes de Genève are executed to the highest traditional standards, where no surface is hidden and no imperfection can remain.

The dial layout is intentionally minimal, ensuring clarity despite the complexity beneath. Hours, minutes, and central chronograph seconds are displayed along the outer track, while the running seconds and 30-minute counter are positioned on the left and right respectively. A lower register integrates both date and day/night indication, adjustable via a discreet pusher at 8 o’clock. Engraved numerals and indexes, filled with white ink, provide precision and legibility, while the hands—meticulously finished with bercé polishing, satin brushing, or lacquer—interact beautifully with light.

The case, crafted from Grade 23 titanium, reinforces the watch’s performance-driven identity. Lightweight yet exceptionally robust, it reflects the same engineering philosophy found in high-performance automotive design—where structure, material, and aesthetics converge. Much like an exposed engine, the FXR‑4 Openwork celebrates its mechanics as both function and art.

Produced in limited numbers, the FXR‑4 Openwork is a watch for the true connoisseur—one who values not only technical excellence, but the visible, human touch behind it. It stands as a modern chronograph shaped by tradition, where nothing is hidden and everything is earned.
